This licence will allow you to drive with all of the rights and privileges of a fully licenced Class 5 Alberta driver.
Step One
Make sure you are eligible to take a Class 5 non-probationary (advanced) road test.
You must have your Class 5 probationary (basic) licence for 24 months from the date it was issued.
You must be suspension free for the last 12 months.
If you are taking this test for reinstatement purposes, contact the registry before you book to confirm that you are eligible to take a Class 5 Advanced road test.

Step Three
Obtain your prepaid test permit
Don't forget to arrive at least 20-25 minutes prior to your scheduled road test, which will allow you the time to obtain your permit.
Your road test cannot begin without this permit, which is included in the online price of your reservation.

If you pass your road test, you can reclassify your existing Class 5 probationary (basic) driver's licence to a Class 5 non-probationary (advanced) licence.
Tips and Tricks
To avoid two trips to the registry, arrive 20-25 minutes prior to your scheduled road test to allow time to obtain your prepaid test permit.
Your road test cannot proceed without this permit.
This advanced road test should take around 60 minutes in time.

Don't forget to also bring important documents such as:
- Class 5 probationary driver's licence
- Valid
insurance
& registration
for the vehicle you will test with
- Test permit (which you receive when you arrive at the Registry and confirm your reservation)
Without these documents, your Class 5 advanced road test can not begin, and will result in the forfeit of related fees (service fee and reservation fee).
You must provide your own testing vehicle
Ensure that the vehicle that you are using to take your road test is in proper working condition, such as:
- Signal lights
- Brake lights
- Headlights
- Horn
