When you're ready for your class 5 non-probationary licence road test, you'll have already taken your class 7 knowledge test and held an Alberta Operator's Card (Alberta Driver's License) for at least one year. You may have practiced driving for a while now or even taken Driver's Education.

  Don't forget to arrive at least 20-25 minutes prior to your scheduled road test, which will allow you the time to obtain your prepaid test permit.
  Your road test cannot begin without a test permit, which will be paid for when you reserve your test online.

  If you pass your road test, you can reclassify your existing Class 7 learner's licence to a Class 5 probationary licence.
  Tips and Tricks

  To avoid two trips to the registry, arrive 20-25 minutes prior to your scheduled road test to allow time to obtain your prepaid test permit.
  Your road test cannot proceed without this permit.

  This basic road test should take around 30 minutes in time.

  Don't forget to also bring important documents such as:

  • Class 7 learner's licence
  • Valid
    insurance
    &
    registration
    for the vehicle you will test with
  • Test permit (which you will receive when you arrive and confirm your reservation)

  Without these documents, your Class 5 probationary road test can not begin, and will result in the forfeit of related fees (service fee and reservation fee).

  You must provide your own testing vehicle

  Ensure that the vehicle that you are using to take your road test is in proper working condition, such as:

  • Signal lights
  • Brake lights
  • Headlights
  • Horn
