Alberta Class 5 Basic GDL Road Test -
Reclassing Your Operator's
Licence
If you pass your class 5 basic GDL road test, you will be asked to
do a vision test.
Be sure to bring your glasses if you need them to see
distances.
The class 5 GDL vision test will also check for depth perception as
well as colour
recognition.
Results of the vision test are recorded on your test permit.
Reclassing your class 7 Alberta Operator's Licence to a Class 5 GDL
Operator's Licence is
the next step.
This means that you are submitting your class 7 Alberta Operator's
Licence & your test
permit that indicates that you have passed your road test.
In return you will receive a new Class 5 GDL Alberta Operator's
Licence
Important
You must hold a class 5 GDL Alberta Operator's card for at
least 2 continuous year
before you are eligible to take the class 5 advanced GDL
exit road test which is the
next and final step in the GDL process.
The 2 year period starts on the issue date of your class 5
(Basic) GDL Alberta's
Operator licence card; not when you passed your road test.
If your class 5 GDL Alberta Operator's Licence becomes
invalid at any time, you must
re-start the 2 year period required for you to be eligible
for a class 5 advanced
GDL Exit road test which starts the day you renew your
expired licence.
This restriction also applies to licence suspensions.
It is recommended that you reclass your Learner's Licence to a GDL
Operator's Licence right
away, so that you are eligible to take the class 5 Advanced GDL exit
road test as soon as
possible.
If you are unable to reclass your Alberta Operator's Licence at the
time you pass your class
5 GDL road test you can always obtain it later, however, your test
permit will expire 1 year
from the date you pass your test.
If your test permit expires or if you misplace it, you must re-take
the class 5 basic GDL
road test.
Make sure you retain your test permit that indicates that you have
passed your road test if
you cannot reclass your licence right away.
At the time you reclass your class 7 Learners to an Alberta class 5
GDL Operator's Licence,
you may be asked to take a driver's licence photo.
This photo is black and white. Headwear must be removed, and only
neutral facial expressions
will be accepted.
